Choosing the correct moldings for your job
With the neverending selection of moldings for enhancing your interior and exterior, be sure you know which type of
molding is used for which type of application.
- Ceiling Molding - Usually comes in two forms. Cove molding which is made to cover the inner corner and can be
used in conjunction with the more popular crown molding which is flatter and often highly decorative and more
appealing than cove molding.
- Wall Molding - Chair rail molding protects walls and covers the edge of any wallpaper.
Wainscoting caps which cover the top of your wood wainscoting panels or the tops of baseboards.
Corner molding is a protective cover of usually an outer corner where walls intersect.
- Casing - Covers the area between a door jamb and the adjoining wall or the area around windows.
Usually inward sloping toward the door or window. Mullion casing is for the area between two windows
that are close together. The one piece acts as casing for each window. Backband molding is a decorative way to cover the outer
edge of flat molding.
- Shelf Edging - Covers the outer edge of plywood and shelving.
